Windows Servicing and Delivery
Microsoft's Windows Servicing and Delivery team is responsible for managing the ongoing updates and servicing of the Windows operating system. This team plays a crucial role in ensuring that Windows remains secure, up-to-date, and compatible with the latest hardware and software developments.
Overview
In August 2023, I joined the Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) team as the sole designer, leading UX research and design for full-screen campaign experiences targeting 400M+ of Windows users. In this role, I conduct and utilize in-depth market and UX research to drive data-informed design decisions, optimizing user engagement and satisfaction. Due to NDA restrictions, only select project elements are available for review. This project required a lighter effort on complex UX design elements, emphasizing streamlined and efficient solutions. If you would like to learn more about more UX design heavy projects I am working on at Microsoft, please reach out.

SUMMARY OF WORK + ROLE 📸
Here is a brief summary of my current role.

As the sole designer on my team, I play a multifaceted role, managing everything from UX research to prototyping. The project showcased here focuses on designing impactful, full-screen campaigns for over 400 million Windows 10 devices that cannot upgrade to Windows 11, guiding users through the transition to a new device as support for Windows 10 ends. My key objective is to increase click-through rates by creating informative, user-friendly experiences that educate and support customers in this transition.

Core Responsibilities
-
End-to-End Design: Lead the entire design process for full-screen notification experiences, from concept to final implementation.
-
User Research & Insights: Conduct comprehensive user research, including customer interviews and large-scale surveys, to gather actionable insights and inform design iterations.
-
Customer Engagement and Testing: Engage in 45-minute conversations with real customers to understand their needs and frustrations, translating feedback into design improvements.
-
Rapid Prototyping in Figma: Develop interactive prototypes to facilitate quick testing and iteration.
-
Visual Media Creation: Developed tailored images for various OEM partners to align with brand specifications, and created engaging GIFs using After Effects to enhance user interaction and visual appeal within full-screen notifications.
-
Design Alignment: Ensure all designs adhere to Microsoft’s guidelines and reflect current design trends, maintaining consistency and professionalism.
-
Advocacy for User-Centered Design: As the team’s sole designer, I champion the user experience and advocate for design decisions that balance user needs with business goals, consistently pushing for improvements that enhance customer satisfaction and engagement.
Design question: How might we design engaging, full-screen notifications that clearly inform customers about the end of support for their Windows 10 device and guide them through the transition to a new PC?
