Brief.
This project won Best in Design
at the Capstone showcase
Brief is a contract companion platform that helps users understand, create, and sign contracts and agreements. I worked as one of two main designers at the company who designed the entire platform that helped Brief be accepted into Techstars '23.
Overview
My time at Brief began one month after the creation of the company and as only one of three employees. I designed a contract companion platform from start to finish that helped Brief be accepted into Techstars Boulder. We raised over a quarter of a million dollars by the time I left the company after 1 year.

Proposed design question : How might we design a contract companion platform that builds trust between business and consumers?
The Problem
People don't read important contracts they are signing. Legally binding contracts are difficult to create, read and negotiate and we want to create a platform that helps users do all three.

Process
As a very early stage startup our design process was incredibly fast paced and focused on producing a product as quickly as possible.

1. Preliminary research
2. Wireframes
3. Low fidelity prototypes
4. High fidelity prototypes
*University of Chicago New Venture Challenge*
5. Customer discovery and prototype iterations
*Techstars Boulder Summer 2023*
6. Pivoting and prototype iterations

Research
- People don't trust the contracts they sign but also don't read the majority of the text
- Individual landlords are unsure if their contracts contain the right information
- Summaries of contracts would help increase a signees trust
- Lawyers are expensive and people often don't pay for them even when they feel they should
Wireframes and Low Fidelity Prototype
Created basic wireframes to lay out the overall flow of the platform
From the wireframes I designed our first low fidelity frames

High Fidelity Prototypes
Created high fidelity prototypes to show in pitches for the University of Chicago New Venture Challenge
We were finalists in this challenge but were ultimately too early stage to get a spot

Techstars and Pivoting
We were accepted into the Techstars Boulder Summer cohort. Once this began we started to focus on gaining a customer base and building to impress investors
